The motif for the hat Ärgad bård and Roströd bård is inspired by a stencil painted motif from the medieval murals in Sånga church, Uppland.
The motif, painted in ferric oxide red, was used to decorate empty space around biblical figures and as a border. In 1687 the murals were whitewashed, but in 1902 they were uncovered and (unfortunately rather badly) restored. At that time a copy of the stencil was made, but now slightly bigger than the original. The new stencil was used for borders painted in ferric oxide red around the windows. One border was painted inside an arched doorway in a bright turquoise colour. Probably only one colour was used when painting the doorway border, but over the years some of the motifs have verdigrised into different shades, from turquoise to the deepest ocean green. Sånga Ärgad bård and Roströd bård means Verdigrised border and Rusty red border from Sånga.
The hat Sånga Ärgad bård and Roströd bård is available in one size. The hat has a more defined slouch on a smaller head.
