The main motif for the mitten is inspired by one of Albertus Pictor’s medieval murals in Härkeberga church in Uppland, Sweden. The mural shows the three kings presenting gifts to baby Jesus in Marys lap. The murals on this wall are damaged, but the brocaded pattern in gold and black on Mary’s cloak still stands out.
Härkeberga Guldmantel means Golden Cloak from Härkeberga in swedish.
