Bromma Stjärnhimmel Hat

Pattern for download

Price:6.30 USD (Incl. Swedish VAT. Final VAT amount depends on the buyer's country.)

The stars on the hat Stjärnhimmel is inspired by a motif in the murals in Bromma church in Uppland, Sweden. The stencil-made stars decorate the skies in some painted biblical scenes, as in the presentation of Mary in the temple.

Instead of using ferric oxide red on white as in the paintings, I’ve choosen some other colourways: with stars shimmering in muted silver and pale bronze set against a white or bluish green ground, or with multiple colours against black. Stjärnhimmel means starry skies in Swedish.

Bromma Stjärnhimmel hat is available in one size. The hat has a more defined slouch on a smaller head. The circumference of the ribbing is approx 54-58 cm, depending of how much it is stretched and the choice of yarn.

Yarn suggestion main colour:

Regia Premium Silk from Schachenmayr 55% merino wool, 25% polyamide, 20% silk (app. 400 m/100 g) in 02 natural white.

Bomuld og uld from Geilsk 55% wool, 45% cotton (app. 232 m/50 g) in C23 blue/green.

Áhkko from Stoorstålka, worsted yarn in 100% wool (app. 225 m/50 g) in 99 black.

Yarn suggestion contrasting colour:

Sea Silk from Handmaiden 70% silk, 30% Seacell (app. 400 m/100 g) in colourway Smoke.

Note: The colourway Smoke that I used for two of the knitted colourways shown in the photos has unfortunately been discontinued. As a subsitute you could try using Mora from Malabrigo in colours Pearl or Simple Taupe, or Vivacious 4Ply from Fyberspates.

Malabrigo Sock from Malabrigo 100% Superwash merino wool (app. 402 m/100 g) in Pocion.

Needle size

Short (40 cm) 2.5 and 3 mm circular needles, 2.5 mm double pointed needles, a thin cable needle.

Approx 31 sts and 35 rounds stranded knit- ting as in chart on larger needles = 10 cm.
